Worlds Collide -- Improv and Yoga

Hello again. More ramblings!

--

The more and more I dive into my yoga practice,
the more and more it feels like my improv practice.

The more and more I dive into my improv practice,
the more and more it feels like my yoga practice.

--

Did you know
the foundation of our work,
the fundamental key
to having successful practice
and fulfilling growth
at BOTH of those activities

is to LISTEN?

--

The most beautiful improv happens
when you leave behind the voices in your head
that are trying to control the scene
that are trying to force something to happen
that are trying to tell you that you suck and will never be good at this,

and you just listen and experience the moment that you are in,
really take in the last thing that was said,
let it impact you in that moment,
and THEN respond.

--

The most beautiful yoga happens
when you leave behind the voices in your head
that are trying to control the practice
that are trying to force your body to do something
that are trying to tell you that you suck and will never be good at this,

and you just listen to your body in this moment,
really take in what it's asking you to do,
let it inform what movements are safe and perfect in this moment,
and THEN settle where you are today.

--

Don't force what you think a move should look like.

Every day, every scene, every practice
is an opportunity to experience something new,
to try a different move.

Everyone can tell when you aren't listening;

it's obvious when your practice is floundering.

When you slow down and LISTEN,
you are in sync with your environment,
and everything that needs to happen
will happen
in whatever shape it takes today.
