Share with Me Saturdays - Details Jewelry

Welcome to Share with Me Saturdays! If you have no idea what that means, read this link first. I encourage you to follow these folks, they are doing a lot of work in the world!

This week features Lisa Coyan, creator and designer for Details Jewelry, based the KC metro. We met two years ago through the KC Fringe Festival. She was a Visual Artist, and I was hanging around at the volunteer check-in table. Like I do.

Q1:Hi! What's your favorite pizza topping?
hamburger/mushroom

Q2:What project/business/profession are you sharing with me today?
Handmade jewelry and other beaded gifts

Q3:How did you join this project/business? Did you create it, or get hired in, or....?
Created in 2004 with my friend, Barb.

Q4:What's the most rewarding part of this project/business for you?
Seeing others enjoy the pieces that I make.

Q5:What part of this project/business makes you want to throw things out of anger or frustration?
Filling out retail tax and income tax reports; also someone who wants a piece but then wants you to make many revisions and/or re-string it later for no cost.

Q6:Do you ever question if this is what you are supposed to be doing in life? Do you feel like you are on a good journey with your project/business...at least for now?
If I could make a living comparable to my degreed job as an engineer, I would love it!

Q7:Do you think you are getting any better at what you are doing? Does it matter?
I am constantly trying new techniques, new materials, and new designs. If I don't improve, the art gets stagnant.

Q8:What do you love most about existence right now? I mean this in the broadest sense possible. Or whatever sense you want to interpret that in, I don't care.
I enjoy the luxury of having time to work on jewelry design; having family and friends love and wear it; being able to work on it with my kids and hubby around.

Q9:How is that love reflected in your project/business?
The pieces we create are unique with lots of different color and style. Custom work is a favorite of mine.

Q10:Where can we read more about you and what you do?
Look for 'Details Jewelry' on Facebook. We will be at Lenexa Parks and Rec's "Cupids Gem and Jewelry Show" Saturday, February 1, 2014 at the Thompson Barn.
